For those aged over 45

The risk of thyroid diseases caused by contamination by radioactive iodine reduces significantly with age. According to experts, someone aged 45 is 10 times less at risk in connection with radioactive iodine than a young person.

However, the risk of side effects when taking potassium iodide tablets increases. In many countries, thyroid blocking is not recommended for people over 45. The risk of thyroid disorders increases with age. It is therefore recommended that people aged over 45 seek the advice of their doctor.

There is no immediate danger however if someone over the age of 45 accidentally takes an iodide tablet.
