Orange alert: early warning of flooding (09.10.2024)

In view of the heavy rain expected to continue, particularly in the second half of Wednesday and during the night into Thursday, with accumulations of between 40 and 60 litres/m2, and even up to 70 litres/m2in places, the bad weather risk assessment unit (CERI), meeting this morning, is issuing a pre-warning alert of flooding which could affect the country from midnight on Wednesday night.

The flood forecasting service is on alert. The heavy rainfall will cause water levels in the country's rivers to rise from midday. Levels at gauging stations are likely to be exceeded on Wednesday night.

The exact location of the areas with the heaviest rainfall and water level forecasts are still subject to uncertainty. Keep up to date with information and water levels on the www.inondations.lu website.

Road traffic is likely to be disrupted in the areas concerned and motorists are asked to adapt their driving and remain vigilant.

CERI continues to monitor the situation.
