Orange alert: thunderstorm warning with heavy rain and winds in the evening (29.06.2024)
The Severe Weather Risk Assessment Unit (CERI), which met for a second time late this afternoon to reassess the weather situation, has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms, which could affect the whole of the country.
Between 20:00 and 24:00, severe thunderstorms may occur in the Grand Duchy, accompanied by rainfall totals of up to 30-40 litres/m2 in a short space of time, causing local flashfloods. During thunderstorms, gusts of wind (up to 100 km/h) and hail (max. 3 cm) can also be expected.
The authorities are warning the public to be vigilant, especially during seasonal outdoor activities (camping, events, etc.), not to take shelter under trees, especially not under isolated trees, and to avoid walking in the forest. It is also advisable to shelter objects that are sensitive to the wind (garden furniture, parasols, etc.).
