Storm warning with strong winds and hail in the early afternoon (31 May 2025)
In view of the changing weather situation and the various major events planned for today, in particular the ING Night Marathon and the Flèche du Sud, the Severe Weather Risk Assessment Unit (CERI), which met at midday, has issued a warning of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and hail, which may affect the whole country.
Between 13:00 and 18:00, thunderstorms may occur in the Grand Duchy, accompanied by heavy showers (15-25 l/m2), gusts of wind reaching 70 to 90 km/h, or even higher locally, and hail. This stormy weather will pass through the area in a relatively short period of time. After the storms have passed, the situation will calm down fairly quickly.
The authorities are warning citizens to be vigilant, especially during cultural and sporting events, not to take shelter under trees, especially isolated trees, and to avoid walking in forests. It is also advisable to shelter objects that are sensitive to wind (stands, garden furniture, parasols, etc.).
The CERI will meet at around 2 p.m. to provide an update and will communicate further depending on how the situation develops.
