Water Management Authority
Legislation creating a Water Management Authority (Administration de la gestion de l'eau) was adopted on 28 May 2004. The authority is responsible for coordinating general policy on water, with the aim of ensuring integrated and sustainable management and effective protection of the Grand Duchy's water resources and aquatic environments.
The Authority's tasks include:
- studying problems concerning the management and protection of water;
- advising the national and local authorities on all matters involving water;
- undertaking the necessary corrective and curative measures to improve the quality and quantity of surface water and groundwater, and to carry out any action to prevent pollution or deterioration thereof;
- coordinating action to combat flooding.
